This is a letter to our friends –

He’s not your President

America’s founding fathers had wisdom and insight beyond what is common. They understood human nature. Their goal was to design a system that would hold human nature in check yet be able to protect individual liberty.

In a small group, like a club or a town meeting, individuals are accountable for their actions. If the group is governed by majority rule, the majority is accountable for its actions.

Our founders understood that there is no accountability in large groups. Individuals may be influenced and swept along by deception and emotion. A demonstration can become a mob and there is no individual to hold accountable.

That is why America’s founders strongly rejected majority rule. Our nation was far too large to be trusted in the hands of a majority. They wisely chose to break up as many centers of power as they could. The states, each a sovereign government formed a Federation. Each in turn, was to be governed by representatives chosen from smaller groups. (A Republic)

Every four years these individual states get together and select their President. The President of their federation.

If we select wise representatives to consider and ponder affairs of state at a given level we can expect far more wisdom than would be found in a mob. If the representatives we select lack that wisdom – who is accountable? We are!

In the days, weeks, and months ahead, “mob wisdom” will be highlighted. Rules will be challenged. (Without rules there is arbitrary chaos.) Ultimately, the Electoral College, designed by our wise founders will be challenged.

When that happens, I hope there will be enough Americans to answer –

He is not your president.

He is the President of the United States.
