This is a letter to our friends –
Trump’s “Hail-Mary”
First of all – MERRY CHRISTMAS ! ! We have been out of the blog business since around October. I want to help folks understand what may be going on in the next few weeks. – In my opinion.
If you can – read Article II Section II of the Constitution, about Congress and electing the President. The V.P. reads the ballots cast by the delegates to the Electoral College to a joint meeting of the House & Senate. Article II tells how to determine the winners (POTUS & VPOTUS).
Any member of the joint meeting can object. Say – If he thinks the election was “rigged”. A debate follows. Trump gets his day in “court” (legislature). There will be parliamentary battles to block open debate.
In the end the House & Senate must certify the Electoral College vote – OR – The House will choose a President. The Senate will choose a V.P.
BUT –
Those choices are only ONE vote per state delegation. I believe Republican states have a 7 vote majority in the New House. Trump stands a good chance there.
Now – some inside baseball –
All men are sinners. Many Senators & Representatives may have sold their political souls in exchange for their liberty to do what is right. Did you ever wonder why Mitch McConnell doesn’t like straight up or down Senate votes. With the “Hail-Mary” EVERY legislator MUST vote for Trump/Pence – or against them. In some cases, at great personal risk. In his 2nd term, Trump will know better who to trust.
