This is a letter to our friends –

Thanks, from Brendan’s mom
(Our daughter, Susan)

To everyone who has donated or been praying for Brendan and our family,

Little drops of water,
Little grains of sand,
Make a mighty ocean,
And a pleasant land.

The above rhyme is one that my mother taught me, and it has come to mind more and more as I have seen the outpouring of love as our son, Brendan battles cancer.

Hearing a cancer diagnosis for your child literally knocks you flat, as a parent. Knowing that your insurance won’t cover it adds a whole new layer of shock. Our new favorite saying has been, “But God”.

Brendan has cancer – But God is greater.
The bills are more than we can fathom – But God’s accounts are bigger than the hospital’s.
But Brendan was leaving for the Army! – But God has a perfect plan for Brendan, and this is just a part of his preparation for life But what about school? – But God will pave a way
But? But? – BUT GOD!

So, thank you for being a part of God’s work in our lives. Those little drops of water do really add up! Those little grains of sand bring a very pleasant land full of love and a peace that surpasses all understanding.

If you would like to follow along Brendan’s journey, he has started a blog on YouTube. You can follow him here:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_T52xBDCOPeFopxL2Vxnww You can log in and subscribe to get notified when he posts.

Monday, we start the second round of chemo in the hospital. This will be another 5-day inpatient treatment. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.

Thank you again,

This is a letter to our friends –

My grand-son Brendan (17)

Our youngest and her family left California to buy wooded Montana anchorage. We miss having them close in Silicon Valley but rejoice that they have a new home and new employment.

Susan and Bryan (Martin) have done a great job as second-generation home schoolers. We are very proud of our grand-kids. Samantha is about to graduate from Westmont College. Brendan has just finished Highschool and has received his first invitation to college.

This kid is a goal setter. He aimed for and earned his Eagle scout rank. He earned his Black Belt. He set his goal for a career in Army special forces, followed by a career in Intelligence. He qualified for West Point and was runner-up for an appointment. He loves the Lord.

This month, at the peak of his teen career, Brendan received a gut-punch! Aggressive cancer was discovered. He is in a chemotherapy program. I am proud that he has a great attitude and is staying close to the Lord through all this.

The move to Montana interrupted health-care insurance and the new policy is not in place long enough to cover Brendan’s cancer. The medical expenses may bankrupt the family.

Fran and I are asking for prayer for a full recovery for this great young man. We are also asking for financial help for the Martin family. See gofundme account –

James Rose passes

A precious friend and mentor, has left the arms of his large family for the arms of his Lord and Savior. A giant in the western home-school movement, Jim and Barbara Rose have enhanced the lives of countless families.

For many years ACH Study Groups hosted four-day by 12 hours/day “Study Seminars”. Jim lead the faculty. He was a gifted sophist in Biblical Principles. His theme was “One God working”. Jim would close each Seminar leading the class in singing Isaiah 58:12 –
“And they that shall be of thee
shall build the old waste places:
thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations;
and thou shalt be called,
The repairer of the breach,
The restorer of paths to dwell in.”
Isaiah 58:12

We will miss you Jim – Great memories!

This is a letter to our friends –

Politics & Faith

It has begun – The 2020 voting cycle is in full swing (mostly) behind the scenes. At its root is a spiritual battle for the soul of America. On the surface it is an election cycle.

The left (you can know they represent evil because not one of their policies enhances righteousness) will seek to focus public attention upon the Presidential Primaries next spring (2020), then the Presidential general election in November 2020.

Like the magician who diverts attention with one hand while manipulating things with the other – the leftist media, democrat activists, and “RINO’s” will be hard at work manipulating local (down-ticket) primary races. They want their candidates winning nominations on the Democrat ticket and they want RINO candidates on the Republican tickets.

There will be some great primary candidates, but most voters will hear little about them because the left systematically cuts off their source of funds and invitations to speak.

I confess – Last week I told the Lord that it appears the voters’ level of political sophistication is far too low to combat the swamp-manipulation. He answered with silence and I had to apologize. This is His battle. We need to pray and obey!

So here is a suggestion from an old political warhorse. If you are willing to get involved –
Phone or visit your county registrar of voters. Ask for their political calendar. When you hear that a local Republican candidate (Righteous Democrat candidates can no longer survive in their party) is interested in your district, contact him by phone or in person. You will be surprised at how hungry they are to meet voters

Ask them the “litmus” questions- What is your position on — * Guns
* Abortion
* Homosexuality

If you get 3 of three then do all you can to help him.

If you get 2/3 look for a better candidate for your efforts.

After the primary is settled, support the Republican candidate regardless of his views. I know it is the lesser of two evils – but – until we have a perfect candidate – every election is the lesser of two imperfect candidates! Issues are important in the primaries. Control is a numbers game in the down ticket general elections.

It will seem overwhelming. Remember – It is God’s battle! Our job is to pray and obey. Then have faith that God is always in control!

This is a letter to our friends –

The big BIG BIG picture
As I see it.

If we are to accept the Bible as true, we are able to piece together clues and build a timeline
from creation to the present. Adam was created about 4000 BC. That makes the human history timeline around 6000 years long. I believe that is true.

God placed men on earth to learn to love Him and one another. [Matthew 22:36-40]

Men made a mess of their first 2000 year try. God flushed it with a great flood to start over with Noah and his family.

Again, they strayed off track and God divided mankind into people groups by dividing their languages at the Tower of Babble. Then He selected one people group, Abraham’s family line, the Jews, to illustrate how a nation was supposed to interact with Him (God) and others.

They weren’t learning well. They tried, but like it is today, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. He promised them that He would send a Messiah [Malachi 3:1, among many OT Scriptures]. The surprise was that He came Himself in human form as a baby, to grow and teach by example how to love God and others.
Error! Hyperlink reference not valid.

Jesus arrived at the end of the second 2000 years on the human timeline. The lessons He taught us literally turned the timeline in another direction. He opened the way to repentance, forgiveness, and direct relationship with God.

Let’s back off and review. 2000 years and a flush (start over). Then miraculous events in the Middle-east (Israel, Egypt, Medo-Persia). Christianity and doctrines of Christian self-government spread across Greece, then Rome, Europe, Great Brittan, America.

Note the general movement has been from east to west. On a globe that traces a great circle.
The major moves of Christian history in America also appear to have been westward to the Azusa Street revival in LA (1906).

I have not seen such culture changing events beyond that. The great circle I mentioned extends from Los Angeles across southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and through the Moslem world back to the Mediterranean Sea.

It would be unlike God, not to include the 2/3 of the world’s population near that extended line. BUT – I believe the end-time clock is ticking. There may not be a lot of time left.

My conclusion – We are on the brink of a mind-blowing, western moving, worldwide baptism in righteousness, the likes of which mankind has never seen!

This is a letter to our friends –

Been there done that!

God said, “If you will do four things, I will do three things – Hear your prayers, forgive your sins, and heal your land.” [2nd Chronicles 7:14] Well, it does not appear that our land has been healed.

That promise was offered to the American Christian society, “If My people, who are called by My name …” (That would apply to the Christian society of any nation.)

We must conclude that we have not humbled ourselves, or we have not prayed, or we have not “sought God’s face”, or we have not “turned from our wicked ways”. (See the referenced Scripture.)

A few decades ago a friend, was pastoring an exciting, fast-growing charismatic Baptist church near Dallas. Another friend was invited as a pulpit guest. He felt led to preach on adultery. Almost overnight – the church dissolved!

We have been focusing upon “draining the swamp”. It surely needs draining! We have decades of pure evil polluting our Capital. On the other hand, the solution is not in Washington. The solution is in our American Christian society.

We have drifted from humility and become “proud Americans” while ignoring the heritage about which we should be proud! What sort of payer-life do we have in our society? We have turned over to a godless system, the raising up of the children God placed in our care. Is it any wonder few of them know to seek His face?

Then we come to the big one, “Turn from your wicked ways.” Have we found our “comfort zone” and nestled in, while indulging our own misbehavior? Have we invited Christ into our lives to “share” it! Until we have a clear understanding of our personal sin and what it has cost ourselves and others, we cannot comprehend the awesome value of the grace and forgiveness Christ offers each of us.

A closing thought. At 89 I see many folks making the same mistakes I made. I shout from the housetops, “THERE IS A BETTER WAY!” Lord why don’t they listen?

He replies, “Would you deny them the chance to learn the same way you did?”

I believe the Lord has called me to teach these principles and their history. It has been suggested we delay the beginning of the online PAG course (Principles of American Government) until Monday January 14th. Phone me if you or your teens are willing to make the commitment.

Merry Christmas!

This is a letter to our friends –

Honoring my wife – 65 Years
An extraordinary woman!

Frances Hudgens graduated high school in Dallas. Soon thereafter she became a student nurse. Her older sister was engaged to my room-mate in college. Bob did not have a car. I offered to take him to pick up his girlfriend and take them to her house.

Fran and her little brother were on the floor shaking Christmas presents. Eighteen months
later I was on leave from Aviation Cadet school and called the older sister to arrange blind dates for a buddy and me. Fran and I have been dating ever since!

We corresponded while I was overseas. I returned and was stationed in Waco. We married shortly before she became an R.N., December 19, 1953. After graduation she joined me in Waco and became an Air Force wife.

A that time there was no assurance I could finish college while in service. After accepting an honorable discharge, I entered SMU in Dallas on the GI Bill. It turned out that Fran is a gifted surgery nurse. While I studied engineering, she was scrubbing in on the very first pediatric open-heart surgeries.

Our first daughter, “Ginger”, died in her arms (crib death) as we raced to the hospital where she worked. She kept her head and activated the ER crew as she carried Ginger down the hall. Ginger was 18 months old.

Both of us thought we were Christians. I had discovered that God provides. I kept sending Him shopping lists since I left high school. It had never occurred to me to say. “Thank You”.

During my Senior year at SMU, Fran was in charge of the campus infirmary. She was loved and respected by all.

It appeared to me that engineering careers progressed toward science or administration. I chose administration and applied for a 2-year MBA course in Massachusetts. Fran was offered a position as supervisor of a home for troubled boys. Once more, she was outstanding in her duties. The position came with an apartment for her family, our son Guy, was one year old.

I received an MBA in 1960. The student wives received a PhT certificate (Put hubby Through)! I was hired by a firm in Houston and Fran (Pregnant with Fawn) and Guy followed. Oh, the amazing grace of loving wives! Anita Fawn was born in Houston.

After a year, learning the business, I was given the sales territory from Georgia to Maine. We were moved to Infield, Connecticut. I left on Monday and returned on Fridays. The name of the game was to get snowed in rather than snowed out! During those long winters Fran was drawn back to serious Bible study. Our pastor at that time did not believe in the virgin birth. She kept a warm loving home for the four of us.

While in Houston, a fellow worker had given me a copy of, “Conscience of a Conservative” by Barry Goldwater. I had slept through civics classes. This little book excited me. [Note – There were no computers or television in the mid-1960s. News east of the Hudson River, came exclusively from newspapers, magazines, or three radio stations. The Christian and Conservative book industries were just beginning.]

I bought a case of Senator Goldwater’s book and went up my street giving them to neighbors. That led to organizing the Connecticut grass-roots movement for Goldwater’s bid for President. Fran organized and led, “Goldwater Girls of Connecticut”. These ladies were trained in crowd control and could hold their own in political discussions. They had a significant role in the state campaign.

We attended the National Convention in the San Francisco Cow Palace. On that trip we decided to move to California. Once settled in Fremont, I looked in a phonebook for a church. There it was, “Conservative Baptist Church”. If it was conservative, it had to be good! At the close of the sermon the Holy Spirit peeled me naked like a banana! I realized how patient God had been with me. Jesus Christ forgave my sins. Both Fran and I dedicated the rest of our lives to His lordship.

My business career moved us to Upland in the Los Angeles area. We purchase our first house. Fran was again a surgery nurse. We were involved with Teen Challenge. The Holy Spirit was schooling both of us! The “Jesus Movement” was in full blossom. We had front row seats! A spin-off of the Assemblies of God, YWAM, was just taking shape. Guy and Fawn were pre-teens. Our youngest, Susan Annette, was born. Fran’s gift of hospitality began to surface.

We inherited a business and place to live from my parents in Morgan Hill (2 hours south of San Francisco). We weren’t wealthy, but we lived like we were! YWAM missionary leaders from around the world used our home as a way-station. The Lord called us to make a long-term commitment to the mission field with YWAM.

We served 5 years fulltime with YWAM. Attending school in Kona, HI and living in a tent on a mountainside. Taking the girls on a 12-month mission trip around the world (37-nations). Discipling an outreach team that served the first “Washington for Jesus” event in D.C.

During that time, son Guy, ran the family business. He says, “When I was 18, my family ran away from home!” Our kids have turned out well because Fran made up for my faults. Upon returning to the business world the Lord led us to the founders of FACE in San Francisco (Foundation for American Christian Education). We both developed a passion for America’s Christian history.

I was invited to write a newspaper column. Fran began home-schooling Susan. That led others to ask her to teach their kids and Fran soon had a 40-student one-room-schoolhouse. To this day she continues teaching. As we were becoming involved with FACE, I filed as a candidate for the state legislature. With all her other accomplishments, she became a politician’s wife! I was nominated three times and Fran held steady through a decade of political turmoil.

We wanted to buy a home. Morgan Hill was out of our range and our business could operate from anywhere. The market fell in Sacramento and we purchased a home from the bank in Citrus Heights. Our kids have families of their own now. They all love one another, and you can’t tell the in-laws from the out-laws!

Throughout this whole life-adventure Frances Hudgens Gilmore has been a model wife. You can read about her in Proverbs 31! She is an inspiration and a blessing from the Lord.
